Gold — bars, coins, and bullion — attracts a special 3% GST rate, far below the standard slabs, in recognition of its role as an investment asset. Making charges on jewellery add 5% when billed separately.

For a sale within one state, the 3% splits equally into 1.5% CGST and 1.5% SGST. For an interstate sale it is charged as a single 3% IGST — the total tax is the same either way.
